The Whopper Snowman
During our second week of work experience, we were hit with a huge blizzard. It was a real shame as I was really looking forward to my work experience as I had planned to do it with the amazing photographer Barry McCall. You win some you lose some I guess but this wasn’t all that bad as it gave me an amazing opportunity to construct a tremendous snowman. There we light scattered snow showers through the week but nothing compared to Thursday night and Friday. My mother and I braved the harsh conditions and I arrived at the Kenny household on Thursday with plenty of food preparing for the worst. Everything was eerily calm during Thursday. As time passed I continued to check the rainfall radar to see when the storm would hit, I kept checking with no luck it seemed it wasn't coming, but then it hit and it was bad. I ventured out at 7 pm to what was an extreme snow storm. At that point, it was very bad but it didn't stop there, the snowfall continued consistently until early Saturday morning. So back in time to Friday morning. We suited up and prepared for a huge construction project. We started out by creating massive snowballs as the base. These bottom snowballs were far bigger than your average snowman snowball as the needed to support the tremendous load they would be put through by the snow above. By the time we had the first 2 balls on the snowman it was already over 6ft tall, we continued adding more and more while we also sculpted and secured the new balls making sure it was structurally sound. We had a small setback when Charles decided to put a flat ET head on the snowman which split one of the snowballs taking about 3ft off the height but this was only a minor set back as nothing was going to stop us. It took a lot of time and effort but in the end, we prevailed and added the top hat on the snowman for a final height of 13ft. It was one whopper snowman.
